Poem "Realizations"

Published on

Black lives matter

A phrase we often hear but only when associated with coffin

Funny because that same word rhymes with Chauvin

Death in our community happens too often whether by our own kin or by someone obsessed with the supremacy skin

Head, why must i worry at night if my father is late for dinner that he may be dead

Lifeless in his vehicle, pumped full of lead

For we are not pencils, but we still write our own stories.

Not statistics to be featured in tonight's latest prime time stories

On the backs of my people this fabricated country was build

Now we walk across street corners and farms where those same souls were killed

Eric Garner

Nat Turner

Filando Castillo

Why are these the stories that have to prove that racism is real

We try to spread messages of peace, love, and equality

But every time we began to make change we are shot by that same injustice gun

So I urge you all love one another

Take pride in your skin treat all like your brother

Because the Secret to our struggles is right in front of our face, we must….

BANG

“BREAKING NEW ANOTHER MAN SHOT”

We’re coming to you live with the man in his body bag

But Black Lives Matter, it was engraved in his coffin
